The favorites are Jason Duffner and Webb Simpson at 12-1. Simpson won this event last year by three strokes over George McNeill. The greens are new and the course is redesigned, but expect fairly low scores this year as players prepare for the FedEx Cup playoffs which begin next week with the Barclays.
The Swede has already has a win and second on Tour this year at the PBC Heritage and Houston Open respectively. With a top-30 at the Open and the WGC Bridgestone and a fine performance at last week’s PGA Championship, finishing T-3 (he would have been second if not for a two-stroke penalty), Pettersson brings decent form back to the site of his win in 2008 and his tied fourth last year. Last year, his 13-under-par total included rounds of 63 and 65.
Snedeker won this event in 2007, which was the final year it was held at Forest Oaks but remains one to watch this week. He was tied for third at The Open with a great putting display and ranks fifth on the PGA stats for strokes gained putting. Top 10’s at Sedgefield in 2009 and 2010 add to Brandt’s credentials heading into this event.
Longshot
Adams is 36-year-old former Georgia Southern star who shot a first-round 66 at the Players earlier this year. He’s still a relative unknown outside the PGA Tour, but after he tied for seventh last week at the PGA, he might not be anonymous anymore.
