Dufner gets first PGA victory
AVONDALE, LA (TheSpread) – After a number of close calls, Jason Dufner finally won his first PGA Tour event on Sunday, as he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in a playoff.
Dufner entered the final round in the lead, but shot just a 2-under 70 to finish at -19 for the tournament. Ernie Els managed to post a 5-under 67 on the day and get to 19-under as well, which forced the playoff.
In the playoff, the two golfers tied on the first hole, but it was Dufner that managed a birdie on the second playoff hole to beat Els, who made par.
According to oddsmakers, Dufner entered the tournament with 25/1 odds to win, meaning a $100 wager on him to win will pay out an additional $2,500.
Luke Donald put on another strong showing this weekend, as he finished third overall at -17 after shooting a 5-under 67 on the final round.
