Mickelson claims the British Open
EAST LOTHIAN, Scotland (TheSpread) – Phil Mickelson won his fifth major and first British Open on Sunday, surprising the field with a 5-under 66.
Mickelson started the day five shots off the lead at +2 overall, but he put forth an amazing final round to shot a 66, winning the tournament at -3 overall, three shots ahead of the field.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Mickleson had 20/1 odds to win this tournament entering the week, which means a wager of $100 on him to win will pay out an additional $2,000. He also entered Sunday’s final round with 20/1 odds to win.
Lee Westwood started the day at 3-under for the tournament, but struggled with tee shots and finished at +1 after shooting a 75 on Sunday. Tiger Woods started at -1, but never really got into the mix, shooting a 3-over 74 to finish at +2 for the tournament, in a tie for sixth.
