This is the final major of the season, coming off Tiger Woods’ victory at Firestone. Woods’ last victory in this event came in 2007. Last year, Rory McIlroy ran away with his second major of the year and looks completely lost this season. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Woods opened as a 7/2 favorite to win the 2013 PGA Championship, while Phil Mickelson had the next-best odds at 12/1.
It’s time. Phil Mickelson won the Scottish Open before he won the British Open a few weeks back. Woods has all the momentum after a dominant performance at Firestone last week. He’s won five tournaments this year but hasn’t won a major since 2008. That streak finally ends as he grabs the early lead and holds on.
Here’s a guy due to win a major. Injuries have hampered his play but when he’s healthy, he’s very good. He’s not a long hitter, but length isn’t required to score well. He holds the No. 7 spot in the World Golf Rankings and the No. 3 spot in the latest FedEx Cup standings for the year. He has two wins, eight Top 10 finishes and 11 Top 25 finishes.
Longshot:
He won the 2007 Masters and is playing well this year. He lost in a playoff at the John Deere Classic, tied for sixth at the British Open and was in the top-10 last week at Firestone. He knows how to hit the fairways, which is a must at Oak Hill.
