FedEx St. Jude Classic Free Picks
MEMPHIS, TN (ATS Consultants) – The PGA Tourmoves to the TPC Southwind in Memphis for the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Who will emerge victorious?
This is the warm-up tournament before the U.S. Open, which goes next week from Pennsylvania. The winner of a PGA Tour even the week before the U.S. Open has never won the title the following week. There are only five of the top-30 golfers in the field including the co-favorites Phil Mickelson and Brandt Snedeker. Both players are struggling, as Snedeker missed three cuts in the last six tournaments and Mickelson has missed two of the last five.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Snedeker and Mickelson are both favored at 14/1, respectively, while Dustin Johnson has the next best odds at 18/1. Ryan Palmer, meanwhile, is 25/1 and Billy Horschel is 28/1.
Palmer has not missed a cut in his last six starts. His best finish was a T5 at The Players Championship. He’s 10th on the tour in driving distance. He’s also not in the U.S. Open which should really drive him to do well.
Howell III has played well this year but doesn’t have a win. He has nine top 25s this season and is tied for 21st last week at the Memorial. He has two top 10s at TPC Southwind. He’s another one that didn’t qualify for the U.S. Open.
Longshot:
Guthrie is a 23-year old who claimed the final qualifying spot for the U. S. Open from Columbus. He’s tied for 19th here last year in one of his four starts. He’s a talented player that will win some tournaments in the future and possibly the present.
