English gets first PGA victory
MEMPHIS, TN (TheSpread) – Harris English emerged from a crowded field as the winner of the FedEx St. Jude Classic on Sunday.
English played steady all week, starting the weekend with a 66 and 64, and then followed it up with a pair of 69s on Saturday and Sunday to finish the tournament at -12 overall, which was two shots better than Phil Mickelson and Scott Stallings. It was the first tour victory for English.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, English had 50/1 odds to win this event coming into the week, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $5,000.
Mickelson made a nice run late in his round on Sunday to get to -10 overall and in a tie for second. He shot a 67 in the final round while Stallings shot a 2-under 68 on Sunday to finish at -10.
