This is the sixth year that the TPC will be the sole host. Last year, the winner was Jason Dufner, who won at -11. There are plenty of hazards to deal with on the 7,166 yards, par 70 layout. Now the weather forecast calls for high winds throughout the weekend. This isn’t the greatest field despite the prestige because it comes after The Players Championship, which was won by Tiger Woods last week. Woods is not her but Dufner, the favorite, is.
Jason Day has made every cut this season. He also won it at the Byron Nelson in 2010 and has top 10s in his other two starts at TPC Four Seasons. He also has a handful of top-10s this year including two third-place finishes including at the Masters. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Day is 16/1 to win the HP Byron Nelson Championship
The South African is the highest-ranked player in the field. He finished a solid fifth at the Ballentine’s Championship in late April and was a T19 at The Players last week. He is a very good ballstrike and should be around at the end on Sunday.
Longshot:
Speith made his PGA Tour debut in 2010 here, finishing T16. He has three top 10s this year including a T2 in Puerto Rico. As a native Texan, he should be used to the wind. In his last three starts, he has a pair of top-35 finishes. Not bad for the youngster.
