Zurich Classic Picks & Predictions
AVONDALE, LA (ATS Consultants) – The PGA Tour stops off this week at TPC Louisiana for the Zurich Classic.
The course has hosted the tournament since 2005. This is a Pete Dye-designed course with a par 72, 7520 yards course with 71 sand bunkers and five water hazards. Bubba Watson won this tournament back in 2011, though Justin Rose is the favorite to win this event. Last year’s winner Jason Dufner is also back and is tied for Watson at 16-1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv.
Dufner has had success here with a win, a tie for third and a tie for seven in his past three starts at TPC Louisiana. This season, he has four Top 25’s from nine starts.
The former Florida Gator is really coming into his own. Horschel has had a T-2, T-3 and T-9 in his past three events. At 26-years old, this might be the time for his first PGA Tour win.
Longshot
Last year, Villegas shot three rounds in the 60’s here including a second-round 66. He’s started the season out slow, missing the first three cuts. But he’s now turned in top 20 finishes in three of his last four events. In those last 3 top 20 finishes he has improved on his bunker play notching no worse than 70% in Sand Save percentage. That’s crucial going into a course with a lot of sand.
