Texas Valero Open Payouts
SAN ANTONIO, TX (The Spread) – Martin Laird punched his final Masters ticket with a win at the 2013 Texas Valero Open this weekend and in turn, set up bettors with a huge payday.
With the win in San Antonio, Laird earned his third PGA Tour title with a bogey-free 9-under-par for a total of 63 in the final round of the Valero Open. With the victory he also earned the 94th and final spot in this year’s Masters. Laird’s 63 tied Matt Every’s course record at TPC San Antonio.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovad.lv, Laird was a 100/1 long shot to win this week’s PGA event. Rory McIlory was favored at 9/1 while Charl Schwartzel was 10/1. Matt Kuchar was 12/1 to win the Valero Open, while Henrik Stenson was 20/1 and both Fredrik Jacobson and Ian Pulter were 25/1, respectively.
Laird essentially wasn’t in contention until he notched birdies on five of his first eight holes. McIlroy made a late charge but in the end Laird pulled out an unexpected victory after failing to finish better than tied for 34th at Bay Hill two weeks ago. On top of notching a place at August National, he’ll also be included in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship.
