2013 Masters Predictions
AUGUSTA, GA (The Spread) – The PGA Tour stops off this week at Augusta National for The Masters 2013. Which player will come out on top this weekend?
The Masters from Augusta is one of the most prestigious sports events in the world. Last year, Bubba Watson won his first major but is 33-1 to win the tournament this year. Tiger Woods, who last won the tournament in 2005, but has four green jackets, is the favorite at 3/1 according to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv. That’s because Woods won at Torrey Pines, Doral and Bay Hill to reclaim the top spot in the world.
Rory McIlroy is another possible contender at 8-1, but has the pressure of being the best young golfer in the world gotten to him? He already has two major championships at the age of 23 and was supposed to be Woods’ rival.
Woods has won six of his last 20 PGA Tour starts. But he has not won a major since 2008. If he wins, he’ll move within three of Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 championship titles.
We know Phil has had an up-and-down season. He should have won his fourth Masters last year, but he had two triple bogeys and still finished second. He has finished out the top 10 on only two occasions since 2000. This is one of his favorite courses and the fans just love him at Augusta. Mickelson won in Phoenix this year, had a shared third at Doral but missed the cut at Bay Hill. He’s not coming in as the hottest golfer but it won’t matter.
He won this year’s AT&T and is No. 2 in greens hit. He also had runner-up showings at the Farmers Insurance Open and the Waster Management Phoenix Open. In 2008, he finished third in the Masters. In his last four starts at Augusta, he has made three top-20 finishes. He’s a player on the rise and it could be his time.
Longshot:
The Argentinian won the Masters back in 2009. His putting comes alive on the slick greens. He also has five other top-15 finishes at the Masters. He’s coming off a T16 in Houston two weeks ago. Cabrera has worked hard on his game and could be in the mix with a great price.
