SCOTTSDALE, AZ (The Spread) – The PGA Tour moves to Arizona for the 2013 Waste Management Phoenix Open, played at TPC Scottsdale.
Last week, Tiger Woods dominated his favorite course at Torrey Pines to win a seventh Farmers Insurance Open in a fog-delayed event securing an impressive 75th PGA Tour title.
Kyle Stanley defends the title at TPC Scottsdale but will face stiff competition from an excellent field. Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Johnny Miller and Sandy Lyle have all won titles in the past.
The course at TPC Scottsdale is a stadium track affording excellent vantage points for the 500,000 plus spectators who will watch through the course of the week.
This is the best-attended event in world golf with a tournament record of 538,356 fans coming through the gate back in 2008. Many of them make their way to the cauldron like amphitheatre surrounding the par-3 16th. It’s been the scene of many dramatic moments in the past.
The 24-year old former Oklahoma State star shot 77 in the first round at Torrey Pines. He then went 13-under over the next three rounds to finish at 8 under in a tie for sixth. This was his second T6 of the season after a similar finish in the opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
If you can get Lefty at a decent price, you might as well go for it. He’s absolutely due for a breakout performance. He also has two wins here as well as a runner-up with six addition top tens so he loves this course. He needs a strong showing here to get back in form after a marginal T37 and T51 in his first two tournaments
Longshot
The 2003 Masters Champ has been down for a long time. He made his first cut last week sine 2011. He shot a 66 in the first round last week at Torrey Pines but didn’t break part the rest of the week. It could be a time for a turnaround.
