HOYLAKE, England (ATSCONSULTANTS) – The 2014 British Open begins play very early on Thursday morning. Here is a look at our suggested plays for this event.
According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy are the favorites to win, as each has been given 14/1 odds while Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson both have 16/1 odds.
Here are some golfers to consider wagering on:
Stenson comes into this event second in the world rankings thanks to a strong finish to the 2013 season. He is winless thus far in 2014, but still played well. Stenson has yet to win a major championship, but he is right on the cusp, finishing in the top 5 in three of his last four major events. Stenson finished runner-up in the British Open last year and is due to break through this week.
Spieth is playing in his second British Open. He finished 44th last year, but is coming in playing very well. He is 10th in the world rankings and he finished 17th at the U.S. Open and second at the Masters. Though winless on the year, he has seven top 10s in 2014 and he has finished in the top 20 in five straight tournaments.
Playing close to home could help Casey win his first major championship. He has had his best showings in majors at the British Open, placing third in 2010 and seventh in 2008. He hasn’t finished in the top 10 in a major since 2010, but he has been steady this year, making the cut in nine of his last 10 events with seven top-25 finishes in that span. Look for Casey to contend for it all this weekend.
