McIlroy wins PGA Championship
LOUISVILLE, KY (TheSpread) – Rory McIlroy secured his second straight major championship, winning the PGA Championship by one shot.
McIlroy entered the day with a one shot lead, but fell a few shots out of the lead early in the final 18. However, McIlroy rallied, hitting an eagle on the 10th and then birding the 17th to secure the win at -16 overall, one shot better than Phil Mickelson.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, McIlroy came into this tournament with 5/1 odds to win the event, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $500.
Mickelson had a great outing, shooting a 66 on Sunday to finish at -15. Mickelson nearly holed out a chip for eagle on the 18th that would have tied the lead, but came up just short. Rickie Fowler and Henrik Stenson each finished at -14 for the tournament. Stenson shot a 66 on Sunday while Fowler had a 68. Fowler had an eagle putt on the 18th to get to -16, but three-putted for par. Fowler finished in the top 5 of all four majors this year.
