Shell Houston Open Picks
HUMBLE, TX (ATS CONSULTANTS) – The PGA Shell Houston Open gets started Thursday morning. Here are a few golfers to consider for this event.
According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, Rory McIlroy is favored to win this event, as he has 9/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Dustin Johnson (14/1) and Henrik Stenson (16/1).
Here are our predictions for this weekend’s tournament.
McIlroy has had a pretty good 2014 thus far, finishing in the top 10 in three of his last five tournaments and he has finished in the top 25 in all of them. Despite being off for a number of weeks, McIlroy should be dialed in for a strong showing with The Masters next week. Look for him to certainly be contending for this week’s title.
Mahan is the 2012 champion of this event. He comes into the tournament ranked 32nd in the world and he has placed in the top 10 in four of his last six events. He had to withdraw during the Arnold Palmer Invite, but should be put right in the mix this weekend. Mahan hasn’t had a win since this event in 2012, so he is due to get back to the top.
Holmes is a longshot to win, but he has made the cut in seven of his eight tournaments this year, so he has a good chance to contend into the weekend. He is coming off a 10th-place finish a few weeks ago. He is seeking his first win since 2008, but he has had success at this event before, losing in a playoff back in 2009. If looking for a longshot, Holmes is the way to go based on his past success at the course and his ability to consistently make cuts.
