Mahan wins The Barclays
PARAMUS, NJ (TheSpread) – Hunter Mahan scored his first victory in nearly two years, winning the 2014 Barclays to take the early lead in the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Mahan shot an impressive 6-under 65 on Sunday to get to -14 for the tournament. He did so even with a bogey on the final hole. His final score gave him a 2-shot victory over Jason Day, Cameron Tringale and Stuart Appleby.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Mahan came into this tournament with 40/1 odds to win the event, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $4,000.
Appleby posted a 65 of his own on Sunday to get to -12 for the tournament. Day entered the day tied for the lead, but shot just a 68. Jim Furyk also held the lead entering Sunday, but shot a 1-under 70 to finish at -10 for the tournament.
