2014 Ryder Cup Odds
PERTSHIRE, SCOTLAND (TheSpread) – Every two years, the best golfers in the United States and Europe collide in the Ryder Cup. Here is a look at the odds to win this year’s event.
The Ryder Cup is a team event that is played over three days. This year’s event will be held at PGA Centenary Course in Scotland. The first two days feature teams competing for 8 points each day. Four points coming in foursomes matches and four coming in fourball matches. On Sunday, the final day, 12 singles matches are played, each one being worth a point. The team that scores the most points wins. In the event of a tie, the defending champ, Europe, retains the Ryder Cup.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Europe is the favorite to win this event, as it has odds of -180 to prevail, while the United States has been given a money line of +160 to win. The odds of a draw have been set at +1400.
Europe is captained by Paul McGinley. Qualifying for the event for Europe is Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Thomas Bjorn, and Graeme McDowell. The captain’s picks were Stephen Gallacher, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood.
The U.S. is being captained by Tom Watson. Qualifying for the American squad is Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Phil Mickelson, Matt Kuchar, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Zach Johnson. Captain’s picks for the team were Keegan Bradley, Webb Simpson and Hunter Mahan.
Europe has won the last two events and five of the last six Ryder Cups. The last time the United States won the Ryder Cup in Europe was back in 1993.
The 2014 Ryder Cup takes place from Sept. 26-28 at PGA Centenary Course in Pertshire, Scotland.
