U.S. Open Free Picks
PINEHURST, NC (ATS CONSULTANTS) – The 2014 U.S. Open Championship begins play on Thursday. Here are a few picks to consider for this golf tournament.
According to oddsmakers from BetDSI, Rory McIlroy is favored to win this event, as he has 10/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Adam Scott (12/1), Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson
Here are some golfers to consider:
Scott is No. 1 in the world right now and has finished in the top 5 of his last two events, including one win. Scott has not typically done well at the U.S. Open, as he has yet to crack the top 10, but his overall play has been strong these last few years and he is due for a big showing in this event. He has placed in the top 10 in seven of his last 13 majors, including one victory.
Dufner is a former major champion and finished second a few weeks ago at the Crowne Plaza Invite. Dufner has been very strong at the U.S. Open these last two years, finishing tied for fourth. Dufner has the kind of calm mindset that will be important this weekend on a course that can punish you for hitting a good shot. Look for Dufner to be in the mix this weekend.
Live Long Shot
Toms is all the way back at 132nd in the world rankings, but he has had some strong play as of late. He finished fifth at the Crowne Plaza Invite and 15th at the Zurich Classic. Toms has been pretty solid at the U.S. Open as well. He has finished in the top five of this event on three different occasions, including the 2012 event. He has finished in the top 10 in two of his last six major championships as well. Toms isn’t a bad dark horse for the weekend.
