Kaymer dominates U.S. Open
PINEHURST, NC (TheSpread) – Martin Kaymer dominated the 2014 U.S. Open, going wire-to-wire for his second major championship victory.
Kaymer was strong from the start of this week’s event, posting a first-round 5-under 65. He followed that up with another 65 on Friday to heavily distance himself from the field. He spent the final two rounds coasting in for the victory. Kaymer finished at -9 for the tournament, which was good enough for an 8-shot victory. Only two others finished under par for the tournament.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Kaymer had 40/1 odds to win this weekend’s event, which means a $100 wager on him to prevail will pay out an additional $4,000.
Erik Compton and Rickie Fowler each finished at -1 for the tournament to tie for second. Both men shot a 2-over 72 on Sunday to finish just under par for the 72 holes.
Five other golfers finished at even par for the tournament, including Keegan Bradley, Jason Day, Henrik Stenson and Dustin Johnson.
