PINEHURST, NC (TheSpread) – Which American will emerge from the U.S. Open with the best score? Here is a look at the odds.

According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Phil Mickelson is favored to emerge as the top American this week, as he has 7/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Bubba Watson (8/1), Jordan Spieth (11/1) and Matt Kuchar (11/1).

Mickelson is a five-time major champion, but he has never won the U.S. Open. He has finished second in this event six different times, including last year. Since winning the British Open last year, Mickelson has finished outside the top 50 in his last two majors.

Watson is a two-time winner of the Masters and coming off a Masters win this year. He hasn’t had great success at the U.S. Open, having just one top 10 in seven appearances. Outside of his two Masters wins, he hasn’t placed in the top 10 in another major since 2010. His top finish in the U.S. Open was fifth in 2007.

Spieth is playing in his third U.S. Open. He missed the cut last year while finishing 21^st in 2012 as an amateur. This will be just his sixth major event in his career. He is coming off a second-place finish at the Masters in April.

Kuchar is seeking his first major championship this week. He has finished 28^th or better in his last four U.S. Opens. His top finish was sixth in 2010. He is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Masters.
