AUGUSTA, GA (ATSConsultants) – The 2015 Masters Championship begins play this morning and we have our picks for the first major of the 2015 golf season.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Rory McIlroy is the favorite this weekend, as he has 11/2 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Jordan Spieth (8/1) and Bubba Watson (10/1). This tournament will take place Thursday-Sunday from Augusta National.
Keegan Bradley has had a nice resurgence to his career starting late in the 2014 season. He three top 10s since his final event of last year, including a fifth-place finish last weekend. He also had a pair of top 20s in last year’s majors, so look for Bradley to make a push this weekend despite his 66/1 odds.
Zach Johnson is a former Masters champion that has long odds this weekend. His current odds are 80/1. We think he is a great bet with those numbers. Along with being a former champion at this course, Johnson has been strong for a sustained period. He has finished in the top 20 in five of his last nine events, including four top-10 finishes.
Miguel Angel Jiminez was the surprise of last year’s Masters, posting a fourth-place finish, his career best. Augusta has been one of his stronger courses, as he has four top 10s there. Despite his age, he is steady there and that is why we like him with 175/1 odds. If he can dial up the magic again, he can provide a big payout.
