DJ now favored at The Open
FIFE, Scotland (TheSpread) – The first round of the British Open is complete and Dustin Johnson finds himself back at the top of the leaderboard at a major championship.
According to oddsmakers from GTBets, Johnson is now a 10/3 favorite to win The Open Championship following the first round while Jordan Spieth has 4/1 odds and Jason Day has 9/1 odds. The British Open continues Friday-Sunday from St. Andrews.
Johnson posted a 7-under 65 on Thursday to take a one-shot lead on the field. Johnson’s driving set him up with some early birdie opportunities and he avoided any major setbacks down the stretch. He is seeking his first major championship.
Spieth shot a 5-under 67 on Thursday to put him two shots out of the lead. The opening round was promising for Spieth considering the pressure he has on him to win the third major of the season. Spieth looked solid during the round and should remain in the mix.
Day is one of six golfers that is tied for second at -6 after shooting a 66 on Thursday. Day is seeking his first major, but has been in contention many times. However, he has never finished in the top 30 of the British Open.
