One of the great events in golf is set to take place this week as the Ryder Cup will tee off. Here is a look at the odds for this year’s event.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the United States is favored to win the Cup, as they are getting odds of -185 to win, while Europe has been given a money line of +145 to retain the trophy. The 2016 Ryder Cup takes place on Friday, Sept. 30-Sunday, Oct. 2 from Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.

The Ryder Cup is three-day team format of golf with Friday and Saturday featuring four foursomes matches and four fourball matches. Teams of two from each side compete against each other with 1 point up for grabs in each match, in a match-play format. If the match is tied after 18 holes, each team gets ½ a point. On Sunday, there are 12 individual matches with 1 point at stake. To win the cup, the US needs 14.5 points while Europe needs just 14 to retain.

Team USA is captained by Davis Love III. The 12 players on the team are Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, JB Holmes, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and Ryan Moore. Holmes, Fowler, Kuchar and Moore were captain’s picks.

Team Europe is captained by Darren Clarke and consists of a team of Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Justin Rose, Andy Sullivan, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters. Westwood, Kaymer and Pieters were captain’s picks.

Europe comes into this year’s event with six rookies while the United States has just two. However, Europe has dominated this event over the last couple decades. Europe has won six of the last seven events, including two of the last three events in the United States. Europe is 10-7-1 all-time in the Ryder Cup.
