Ryder Cup Free Pick
The 2016 Ryder Cup is set to tee off on Friday morning. Here is our pick for the winning team of this annual event.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the United States is favored to win the Cup, as they are getting odds of -185 to win, while Europe has been given a money line of +145 to retain the trophy. The 2016 Ryder Cup takes place on Friday, Sept. 30-Sunday, Oct. 2 from Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
The Ryder Cup is three-day team format of golf with Friday and Saturday featuring four foursomes matches and four fourball matches. Teams of two from each side compete against each other with 1 point up for grabs in each match, in a match-play format. If the match is tied after 18 holes, each team gets ½ a point. On Sunday, there are 12 individual matches with 1 point at stake. To win the cup, the US needs 14.5 points while Europe needs just 14 to retain.
Team USA is captained by Davis Love III. The 12 players on the team are Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jimmy Walker, Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker, Zach Johnson, JB Holmes, Rickie Fowler, Matt Kuchar and Ryan Moore. Holmes, Fowler, Kuchar and Moore were captain’s picks.
Team Europe is captained by Darren Clarke and consists of a team of Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Cabrera-Bello, Justin Rose, Andy Sullivan, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Thomas Pieters. Westwood, Kaymer and Pieters were captain’s picks.
Europe has owned this event for the last 12 years, going 6-1 with a pair of wins on United States’ soil. The last time this event was held in the US, Europe rallied on Sunday to pick up a 14.5-13.5 win. However, this year’s European team is lacking in much experience and not playing all that great outside of McIlroy, Rose and Stenson. The United State has a team that has been winning tournament consistently over the last few months, led by the likes of Dustin Johnson, Jordan Reed and Jimmy Walker. They also still have Jordan Spieth, who is still strong despite not being at his best. Look for Team USA to finally get the Ryder Cup back this weekend.
