WGC-HSBC Champions Picks
The 2016 WGC-HSBC Champions is set to get started in China on Thursday. Here are some golfers we think can contend for the victory.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Rory McIlory is favored to win this week, as he has 11/2 odds. Other short odds to win are Dustin Johnson (6/1), Henrik Stenson (18/1) and Hideki Matsuyama (22/1). The WGC-HSBC Champions takes place Thursday-Sunday from Sheshan International in Shanghai, China.
Rory McIlroy is third in the world rankings and he is finishing off a strong end to the 2016 season, winning the FedEx Cup Playoffs. He has three wins this year and he has performed well at this event, placing sixth or better in four of his five appearances. Look for McIlroy to push for another win this weekend.
Dustin Johnson is No. 2 in the world rankings thanks to a great 2016 year that saw him win three times with 14 top-10 finishes. He has finished in the top 10 in nine of his last 11 events. He also is a former winner of this event, taking the title in 2013. He also placed fifth in this tournament a year ago.
Patrick Reed has 30/1 odds to win this weekend, but those are good odds for a guy having a strong fall. He won The Barclays during the FedEx Cup Playoffs and had a very memorable performance in the Ryder Cup. He also has made the cut in 13 straight events. Reed also played well in this tournament last year, finishing seventh.
