PGA Championship Predictions
The 2017 PGA Championship is set to begin its action on Thursday morning. Here are some golfers we think will contend for the victory.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Rory McIlory is the current favorite to win the tournament, as he has 7/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Jordan Spieth (8/1), Hideki Matsuyama (11/1) and Dustin Johnson (12/1). The PGA Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday from Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Rory McIlory is the favorite thanks to his great history in this tournament and at Quail Hollow. He is a two-time winner of the Wells Fargo Championship, which is held at Quail Hollow. He also is a two-time PGA Championship winner. His last major win was the 2014 PGA Championship, but he comes into this tournament having finished in the top 10 in two of the three majors this year. McIlroy also has placed in the top 5 in his last two tournaments. Despite being winless in 2017, everything seems to be shaping up for McIlroy to make a run at another PGA Championship.
Jordan Spieth comes into this tournament with a lot of momentum. He won the Travelers Championship about a month ago and then followed that up with The Open Championship victory, his third career major. Spieth is now setting his sights on completing the career Grand Slam by winning this weekend. He already has three wins this year and he finished second in this tournament in 2015 and 13th a year ago. Spieth seems to be dialed in and he is awfully tough to beat when he’s at his best.
Thomas Pieters is one I like again in a major. He is listed with 55/1 odds this weekend. Pieters is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Bridgestone Invitational last weekend. It was his second top-5 finish in a WGC event, which is similar to a major field. Pieters showed he was ready to win a major earlier this year when he took fourth at The Masters. He has four top-10 finishes this year and seems to be stronger in the bigger events. I think he makes for a good dark horse option to win his first major.
