WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Picks
An impressive field of golfers is set to take part in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational starting tomorrow morning. Here are some golfers we like to contend for the win.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Jordan Spieth is favored to win this tournament, as he comes in with 8/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Dustin Johnson (9/1), Rory McIlory (10/1) and Rickie Fowler (16/1). The WGC-Bridgestone Invitational takes place Thursday-Sunday from Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio.

Rory McIlory is without a win this year, but he is a former champion of this tournament, taking the title in 2014. McIlroy has won at least three tournaments the last three years and I think this is the event that will get him started for 2017. After a poor stretch, missing the cut in three of four tournaments, he placed fourth at The Open Championship. He also recently made a switch at caddie, so he seems committed to turning the ship around. I think it starts with a win this weekend.
Brooks Koepka is listed with 18/1 odds to win this tournament. I like those odds for him as I feel like he is playing as well as anyone over the past few months. Koepka won the U.S. Open and followed that up with a sixth-place finish at The Open Championship. Koepka has made the cut in his last nine tournaments, so I don’t see him falling apart this week. If McIlroy doesn’t get the job done, I think Koepka will.
Did Jason Day find something at The Open Championship? He comes into this weekend with 28/1 odds. Day is still a top-10 golfer in the world rankings and has a game capable of getting him to No. 1. He missed a pair of cuts prior to The Open, but then finished 27th and actually hovered near the leaderboard at times. It could be a sign of Day getting back to his old ways. He comes to a course where he finished third a year ago, so Day’s confidence should be high. I think his longer odds give him great value this weekend.
