Day wins PGA event in playoff
LA JOLLA, CA (TheSpread) – Jason Day was one of the favorites to win the Farmers Insurance Open this week, and he did just that on Sunday, claiming the PGA victory in a playoff.
Day posted a 2-under 70 on Sunday to get to -9 for the weekend, which put him in a four-way tie for first place with J.B. Holmes, Harris English and Scott Stallings. Stallings and English bowed out after the first playoff hole and then Day dispatched Holmes on the second playoff hole to claim the win.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Day had 14/1 odds to win this weekend, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail pays out an additional $1,400. We suggested Day to be one of your plays leading into Thursday’s opening round.
Stallings had a strong final round to make it into the playoffs, as he shot a 3-under 69 on Sunday. Both Holmes and Stallings shot an even-par 72 to remain at -9. Charles Howell III had one of the top rounds on the day, shooting a 4-under 68 to finish at -8 for the tournament and in a two-way tie for fifth.
