WGC-Match Play Championship Odds
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (TheSpread) – The top golfers around the world meet up this week for the WGC-Cadillac Match Play Championship. Here is a look at the odds to win this event.
This event features the top 64 players available based on the World Golf Rankings. Unlike year’s past when all competed in a single-elimination tournament, the format will features 16 groups of four players meeting in round-robin matches over the first three days. The winners of each group will move into a 16-man single-elimination bracket that will conclude over Saturday and Sunday. All matches will be held from TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
According to oddsmakers from Bovada.lv, Jordan Spieth is the favorite to win this event, as he has 8/1 odds, while Rory McIlroy has 9/1 odds and Jason Day has 12/1 odds to win.
Spieth has never won this event. He debuted last year and reached the quarterfinals. Spieth is second in the world rankings He has finished in the top 10 in six of the nine event he has played in this year. He has also won four of his last 12 tournaments.
McIlroy has never won this event. He finished second in 2012, but has failed to get into the round of 16 four of the last five years. He is the top golfer in the world rankings. He has placed 11th or better in five of his six events this year.
Day won this event last year and he placed third in 2013. He is seventh in the world rankings. Day has one win this year to go with four top-5s.
