PGA Championship Fantasy Picks
The 2018 PGA Championship is set to tee off early Thursday morning with all the top golfers in the world vying for the title. Here’s our suggested fantasy team for the weekend.
The PGA Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday from Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri. In DraftKings Classic Golf format, you are given a team salary of $50,000 and six roster spots to fill. Here’s the team we like.
Justin Thomas, $9,700: The defending champion is coming off a great showing at the Bridgestone Invitational last weekend and looks to be set to make a run at back-to-back PGA titles. As good as many golfers have been the last two years, Thomas has been as good as anyone. He has earned seven victories since the start of 2017 and I expect him to be a top contender for the win this weekend.
Tommy Fleetwood, $9,300: Fleetwood has been very steady in the majors this year, cracking the top 20 of all three. That includes a runner-up finish in the U.S. Open. Fleetwood clearly is ready to take that next step and I think it can come this weekend. He already has a win this year and six top-10 finishes. Look for Fleetwood to wrap up his strong major campaign with another good finish.
Tony Finau, $8,100: If you’ve played Finau this year in the majors, you haven’t been disappointed. He has finished in the top 10 of all three 2018 majors and he seems like he can make it 4-for-4 this weekend. Finau has six top-10 finishes this year and has made the cut in this last five events. He seems to be rising to the occasion for the big events and this is certainly a big event.
Matt Kuchar, $7,900: Kuchar continues to be in the hunt for his first major championship. He has finished in the top 10 in four of the last seven and in the top 30 in six of the last seven majors. Kuchar was ninth in this event a year ago and ninth in the British Open a few weeks ago. His steady game makes him a potential contender in most majors.
Ryan Moore, $7,400: Moore is another golfer that has done a good job at rising to the occasion in majors recently. He has finished in the top 30 in four of his last five majors, including three top-15 finishes. Moore has made the cut in this event seven of the last eight years as well. The 2018 season hasn’t been his best, but his top outings have been in majors. I think he is a strong option for such a low price.
Zach Johnson, $7,500: Zach Johnson hasn’t had a great 2018 season, but he has found a nice little groove for himself right now. ZJ has finished in the top 20 in five straight events, including the last two majors. A two-time major winner, Johnson still has the ability to win a third and I think he is a great dark horse option this weekend for a low price.
