Desert Classic Predictions
The 2019 Desert Classic will get underway on Thursday morning in California. Here’s some of the golfers we think will contend for the win this weekend.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Jon Rahm is the favorite this weekend, as he is getting odds of 13/2 to win. Other short odds to win are Justin Rose (9/1), Patrick Cantlay (16/1) and Charles Howell III (20/1). The Desert Classic takes place Thursday-Sunday from TPC Stadium Course at PGA West in La Quinta, California.
Jon Rahm 13/2
Rahm is the defending champion of this tournament and he comes into the event as one of the higher-ranked golfers in the field. He is currently seventh in the world rankings and has finished in the top 10 in his last three tournaments, including a win in the Hero World Challenge to end 2018. He placed eighth two weeks ago in Hawaii and seems to be riding a nice wave right now that I think can lead him to a win this weekend.
Justin Rose 9/1
Rose sits No. 1 in the world rankings despite not having played yet in 2019. He was on a massive run to end 2018, finishing in the top 10 in seven of his last eight events. That included one win and two runner-up finishes. With the field as weak as it his this weekend, it’s hard to pass up Rose. Despite a bit of a layoff, he should be able to continue his strong play this weekend.
Adam Hadwin 25/1
Hadwin was the runner-up in this event in 2017 and third in 2018, and I look for him to have a strong showing this weekend. The 2018 season was one for Hadwin to forget, but he ended with a little positive momentum. Hadwin finished in the top 10 in two of his last three events and in the top 21 in five of his last seven events. He didn’t look great in Hawaii last weekend but this is a course he clearly is comfortable at.
