Mayakoba Golf Classic Predictions
The PGA Tour begins play in the Mayakoba Golf Classic on Thursday morning. Here’s three golfers we think should be among the top contenders to win this weekend.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Rickie Fowler is favored this week, as he is listed with 8/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Tony Finau (14/1) and Jordan Spieth (16/1). The PGA Mayakoba Golf Classic takes place Thursday-Sunday from El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
Bet on the Mayakoba Golf Classic
Rickie Fowler 8/1
Fowler was one of our picks last week (along with the winner, Bryson DeChambeau) and he was right near the top. Fowler finished fourth last week and has placed in the top 10 in three straight tournaments. While winless this year, Fowler is returning to a tournament he did very well in last year. Fowler was runner-up in this tournament last year and I would expect him to be a top contender again this weekend.
Gary Woodland 18/1
Woodland is one a nice little run that should continue this weekend. He has placed in the top 10 in three straight event and in the top 12 in five straight tournaments. He also has picked up a win in 2018 already. Woodland was the runner-up in this tournament two years ago, so he should have plenty of confidence coming into this weekend. I like Woodland to push for another victory.
Zach Johnson 40/1
The 2018 season has been one to forget for Johnson. He had just one top-10 finish in 21 tournaments. Despite that, he only missed two cuts and he placed in the top 20 in 10 tournaments. Johnson may not have put together a lot of great rounds, but he is still staying in the mix. A golfer of his caliber just needs a shot or two to go his way to get back on track. With this field somewhat light, I think Johnson has a lot of value at 40/1. Don’t be surprised to see Johnson in one of the final pairings on Sunday.
