Northern Trust Open Predictions
The FedEx Cup Playoffs officially get started on Thursday morning when play begins in the Northern Trust Open. Here’s three golfers we like to contend for the victory this weekend.
The Northern Trust Open features the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup standings and is the first of four playoff events. According to the latest oddsmakers, Dustin Johnson is favored to win this week. He has 9/1 odds to prevail. Other short odds to win are Justin Thomas (12/1), Brooks Koepka (12/1) and Jason Day (12/1). The Northern Trust Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey.
Bet on the Northern Trust Open
Dustin Johnson 9/1
Dustin Johnson has had a knack for playing well in FedEx Cup events. He has won four playoff tournaments in his career, including The Northern Trust on two occasions. He is the defending champion of this tournament and still remains the No.1-ranked golfer in the world. While he had a pair of disappointing majors to end his major season, he still has finished first or third in his last four non-major events. I think DJ will be the man to beat this weekend.
Jason Day 12/1
Day is warming up with the year coming to an end. He has finished in the top 20 in his last four events and has missed just one cut on the year. Day already owns two victories in 2018 after going winless all of 2017. He won this tournament in 2015 and has won two playoff tournaments in his career. Day also was sixth at the Northern Trust a year ago. I expect him to play very well this weekend.
Patrick Reed 55/1
Reed has some pretty long odds for being ranked 12th in the world and a 2018 major winner. Reed has been somewhat hit-or-miss in 2018. He has seven top-10 finishes but also has missed five cuts. Still, he tends to bounce back after missing a cut and is coming off missing the cut at the PGA Championship. Reed has the game to win these big events, which he proved this year. I expect him to bounce back and push for the win this weekend.
