Northern Trust Open Picks
TheNorthern Trust Open gets started later today. Here are a few golfers we think can contend this weekend.
According to oddsmkers from RealBets, Jordan Spieth is a 6/1 favorite to win this tournament while Rory McIlroy has 13/2 odds. The other short odds are Dustin Johnson (14/1) and Justin Rose (14/1). The Northern Trust Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades.
Rory McIlroy has value with 13/2 odds as he has finished sixth or better in both tournaments in 2016 and he also had a win to end 2015. McIlroy has been playing well in Europe thus far in 2016 and we expect him to want to make a statement on American soil this weekend.
Dustin Johnson has done very well at this tournament, finishing second the last two years. We think that spells good things for him this weekend with 14/1 odds. He has been somewhat sluggish early in 2016, but coming to a course that he has done well at should spark him to a potential win this weekend.
Charl Schwartzel has 25/1 odds to win this weekend and we like those odds. He has won two of his last three tournament and finished in the top 10 in four straight as he has spent time playing in Europe and Africa. Schwartzel is hot at the right time, with the Masters not too far away. Look for him to build off his recent wins this week in an improved field.
