RBC Canadian Open Picks
Just a week before the U.S. Open, the PGA Tour heads north of the border for the RBC Canadian Open. Here’s the golfers we like to contend for the win this weekend.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Dustin Johnson is the favorite this weekend, as he has 11/2 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Brooks Koepka (7/1), Rory McIlroy (10/1) and Justin Thomas (16/1). The RBC Canadian Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster, Canada.
1000 Dustin Johnson 11/2
This field is pretty impressive given a major is taking place next week. You have the top two in the world rankings with Koepka at 1 and Johnson at 2. Kopeka has been mostly about majors, as his non-major performances aren’t quite as impressive I think he will be focusing in on certain aspects of his game for next week and not be worried about this tournament. Johnson, on the other hand, has been pretty strong in most events. He is the defending champion and has finished runner-up before as well. I like him to be a potential repeat winner this weekend.
1005 Matt Kuchar 22/1
Kuchar is coming off a missed cut last week, but he is having a resurgent season thus far in 2019. He has six top-10 finishes already with one win. That is more than he accomplished last season. With some people turning their attention to next week’s major, I think Kuchar’s steady and calm demeanor should make him a top contender. He’s got to be confident in his game right now.
1011 Shane Lowry 40/1
Lowry is a dark horse to consider as he is coming off back-to-back top-10 finishes, including an eighth-place finish in the PGA Championship. He also owns a win this year and has played pretty well outside of the United States. Lowry finished 12th in this tournament last year. I think, given his strong recent play, he should be a top challenger for this tournament as well. He brings a lot of value at 40/1.
