Spieth wins John Deere Classic
SILVIS, IL (TheSpread) – Jordan Spieth added another victory to his 2015 season on Sunday, as he won the John Deere Classic in a playoffs.
Spieth came into the final round as the leader following a 61 on Saturday. He didn’t play as well on Sunday, posting a 3-under 68, but it was good enough to earn a tie with Tom Gillis at 20-under par. The two went to two playoff holes before Gillis hit a shot in the water and opened the door for Spieth to get the win.
According to oddsmakers, Spieth came into this week with 3/1 odds to win the John Deere Classic, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $300.
Spieth received some criticism for playing in this event a week before the British Open as he seeks his third major of the year. However, Spieth won his first tournament at this event and he wanted to return to show his appreciation. He now heads to St. Andrews on a high note. Outside of Spieth and Gillis, Zach Johnson and Danny Lee finished at -19 for the tournament. Johnson posted a 65 on Sunday.
