Fowler wins The PLAYERS
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FL (TheSpread) – Rickie Fowler picked up the biggest win of his young career on Sunday, as he won the PLAYERS Championship after a lengthy playoff.
Fowler shot a 67 in his final round, going five under for his final four holes, to get to -12 for the tournament. That tied him with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner. The three then went to a three-hole aggregate playoff, with Kisner and Fowler each shooting -1 over three holes while Garcia was even. Fowler and Kisner then went to the famous 17th hole at Sawgrass and Fowler birdied the hole while Kisner made par to finish with the win.
According to oddsmakers, Fowler came into this tournament with 50/1 odds to win, which means a wager of $100 on him to prevail will pay out an additional $5,000.
Garcia shot a 68 on Sunday to get into the playoff while Kiser shot a 69 on the day. Chris Kirk entered Sunday with a 1-shot lead, but he posted a 3-over 75 on Sunday to finish at -7 for the tournament, which put him in a tie for 13th place.
