McIlroy wins by seven shots
CHARLOTTE, NC (TheSpread) – Rory McIlroy had a dominant performance this weekend and won the 2015 Wells Fargo Championship by seven strokes.
McIlroy posted a 61 on Saturday to emerge in the lead and then he followed that up with a 3-under 69 on Sunday to finish at -21 for the tournament. He finished seven shots ahead of Patrick Rodgers and Webb Simpson, who tied for second at -14 overall.
According to oddsmakers, McIlroy was the favorite to win this week’s tournament with 10/3 odds. This means that a wager of $100 on McIlroy to win the tournament will pay out an additional $333.
Rodgers had a nice climb up the ladder on Sunday as well, as he posted a 4-under 68 on to get to -14 overall. Gary Woodland and Phil Mickelson also had strong final rounds. Mickelson posted a 68 on Sunday while Woodland had a 67, putting both at -12 for the tournament, which had them tied for fourth.
