Sony Open Predictions
The 2019 Sony Open tees off in Hawaii on Thursday morning. Here’s a look at some golfers we like to contend for the victory.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Justin Thomas is favored to win this tournament, as he is getting 11/2 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Bryson DeChambeau (12/1), Gary Woodland (14/1) and Jordan Spieth (16/1). The Sony Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Justin Thomas 11/2
Thomas was the 2017 champion of this tournament and he comes in as the fourth-ranked player in the world rankings. He was third last week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions and has finished in the top 10 in three of his last five events. With the field somewhat lacking, I think Thomas has the ability to go out and run past the field.
Jordan Spieth 16/1
Spieth had a 2018 to forget, failing to win any tournaments while putting up just five top-10 finishes. He fell from second in the world rankings all the way to 17th. Still, Spieth is someone that has proven to be among the best golfers in the world and I expect him to start to bounce back this weekend. He finished 18th in this event last year and third in 2017. He should have plenty of confidence at this course and the field isn’t overly strong.
Zach Johnson 40/1
Johnson won this tournament in 2009 and he is coming off a pretty poor 2018 season as well. He finished in the top 10 in just two tournaments but missed only three cuts. He actually had a little bit of a positive swing in the later half of the year. He finished in the top 20 in seven of his last 11 tournaments, including a seventh-place finish in his last tournament of the year. Given his long odds, I think Johnson has some value this weekend.
