The 2019 FedEx Cup Playoffs get started this weekend with the playing of The Northern Trust. Here’s a look at the golfers we like to contend for the win this weekend.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Brooks Koepka is the favorite this week with 8/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Rory McIlroy (11/1), Jon Rahm (14/1) and Dustin Johnson (16/1). The 2019 Northern Trust takes place Thursday-Sunday from Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, New Jersey.
2000 Brooks Koepka 8/1
Koepka hasn’t always been great in just regular tour events, but this isn’t quite that. The start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs brings many of the best together again and that is where he has shined. He just won a WGC event a few weeks ago and was in the top five of all four majors this year, including one win. Kopeka was eighth in this tournament a year ago, so he certainly can navigate this course. A FedEx Cup championship is something Koepka hasn’t achieved, so he should be plenty motivated the next three weeks.
2003 Dustin Johnson 16/1
DJ hasn’t been playing well over recent weeks, but he is still second in the world rankings and a two-time winner of this tournament. I think he has a lot of value this weekend for that reason. Johnson has always been solid in WGC and FedEx Cup playoff events and I think this year will be no different. He comes to a course that he has consistently performed well at and that should help him get back on track. Don’t be surprising if DJ is raising the trophy for a third time on Sunday.
2007 Tommy Fleetwood 25/1
After a rough 2019, Fleetwood has been able to right the ship in recent weeks. He was second in The Open Championship and was fourth in the FedEx St. Jude Invitational two weeks ago. He hasn’t missed a cut this year either, which shows his consistency even when he’s not on top of his game. Given the competition level remains the same as his last two tournaments, I expect Fleetwood to stay in his hot zone this weekend. He, like Koepka, tends to raise his game in the big tournaments.
