The Players Championship Picks
One of the biggest non-major tournaments takes place this week, as golfers will contend for The Players Championship. Here’s a look at the odds to win this tournament.
According to the latest oddsmakers, four golfers are favored to win, as Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth each are listed with 16/1 odds. Tiger Woods is also competing this week. He has 35/1 odds. The Players Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday from TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Jason Day 16/1
Jason Day is a defending champion of this tournament and he is off to a torrid start to his 2018 season. He has competed in six tournaments this year and already has two wins and one runner-up finish. Day has made the cut in all six tournaments this year. He clearly has shaken himself from a disappointing 2017 and is making a push back toward the top of the world rankings.
Rickie Fowler 20/1
While a lot of the attention is being put on Fowler’s playing partners in Woods and Phil Mickelson, I think Fowler could be the man to beat this weekend. He won this tournament in 2015 and finished second at The Masters last month Fowler has made the cut in his last five tournaments and he has seemed to play his best in really competitive tournaments like this. I think Fowler will make a push for the championship again on Sunday.
Sergio Garcia 35/1
Garcia has missed the cut in his last two tournaments, but prior to that, he was on a roll. He finished in the top 10 in three straight tournaments prior to that. Garcia also has a win this year overseas. This tournament has been pretty good to him, as he finished second in 2015 and he has made the cut the last two years as well. Garcia should be able to bounce back this weekend after some shaky starts.
