Tour Championship Predictions
The 2019 FedEx Cup Playoffs wrap up this weekend in a new format for The Tour Championship. Here’s the golfers we like to contend for the win this weekend.
Under the new format, the 30 players that remain all start with a score based on their playoff standings. Justin Thomas is the points leader and starts at -10 while Patrick Cantlay is second and starts at -8, etc. According to the latest oddsmakers, Thomas is the favorite to win with +225 odds. Cantlay is listed with +450 odds while Brooks Koepka has +500 odds and Rory McIlroy is listed at +800. The 2019 Tour Championship takes place Thursday-Sunday East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
1100 Justin Thomas +225
Thomas starts the weekend with a 2-shot lead on the field and multiple shots on many other top golfers this weekend. He is coming off a great showing last week, winning the BMW Championship, and now he comes to a course that he’s played well at. Thomas was runner-up in this event in 2017 and he was seventh last year. Thomas has finished 12th or better in five straight events and is back on a hot streak like he was at the end of 2017.
1105 Jon Rahm +1400
Rahm is starting this weekend at -4 four the tournament, six shots off the lead. Rahm has been looking good to wrap up his 2019 season. On the year, he has 13 top-10 finishes in 19 tournaments. He has finished in the top five in five of his last seven tournaments as well. Rahm has been in the top 10 of this tournament the last two years as well and he should be able to play well again this weekend. I think Rahm can make up those six shots and possibly grab the win.
1107 Xander Schauffele +2500
Schauffele is also starting off this weekend at -4 and I think he has a lot of value with 25/1 odds. He is the 2017 champion of this tournament, so he know what it takes to play well on this course. Xander hasn’t had the best season, but he still has four top-10 finishes on the year, including a third-place finish at the U.S. Open. I expect him to raise his game this weekend as he can score one of the biggest wins of his career and prove he is on the top level of the PGA Tour.
