Valero Texas Open Picks
The 2017 Valero Texas Open tees off tomorrow. Here are some of the golfers we think can contend for the victory.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Matt Kuchar is favored to win, as he has 18/1 odds. Other short odds this week are Charley Hoffman (20/1), Brendan Steele (22/1), Brooks Koepka (22/1), Kevin Chappell (22/1) and Ryan Moore (22/1). The Valero Texas Open takes place on Thursday-Sunday from AT&T Oaks Course in San Antonio, Texas.
Charley Hoffman is very comfortable at this course and should be able to have a strong showing this weekend. He is the defending champion of this tournament also finished second back in 2011. Hoffman is coming off a top-25 finish at Augusta, another course he is continuously strong at.
Jimmy Walker comes into this weekend with 25/1 odds. Walker is also a former champion of this tournament, winning the title in 2015. Walker has won at least one tournament the last four years and is now winless thus far in 2017. He has made the cut in seven straight tournaments, including four top-25 finishes. I like Walker to be in the mix again this week.
Zach Johnson isn’t playing all that great right now, but he has 45/1 odds and I like that for him. He is a two-time champion of this event. Granted the last win came in 2009, but Johnson is notorious for being consistent at certain courses. Johnson is coming off a missed cut at Augusta, but he placed ninth in the Match Play event, was 12th at the Phoenix Open and sixth at the Sony Open. I like Johnson as a strong dark horse play.
