CIMB Classic Predictions
The PGA Tour begins play in the CIMB Classic later this evening. Here is our predictions for the winner this weekend.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Justin Thomas is the favorite this week, as he has 4/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Hideki Matsuyama (8/1) and Paul Casey (12/1). The CIMB Classic takes place Thursday-Sunday from TPC Kuala Lumpur in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Justin Thomas is the two-time defending champion of this tournament. Thomas is coming off an amazing 2017 run, winning four tournaments including the PGA Championship for his first major and the 2017 FedEx Cup. He is now fourth in the world rankings. Thomas has finished sixth or better in four of his last five tournaments, including two wins and a runner-up finish. Thomas also had a nice Presidents Cup run. I look for him to be the man to beat this weekend.
Paul Casey is 14th in the world rankings right now. He is coming off another winless season, but he finished the year strong, placing in the top five in three of his last four events. Casey also had eight top-10 finishes during the year. He finished 21st in this tournament a year ago and I look for him to be a top contender this weekend due to his strong play as of late.
Gary Woodland is listed with 28/1 odds to win this weekend and I like those odds for him at this event. Woodland finished second in this tournament in 2014 and 2013. Woodland had a promising 2017, finishing in the top 10 in four events while missing just three cuts. He has finished in the top 30 in three straight events. I think Woodland has a great chance to make a run at the win this weekend due to his previous success at this course.
