John Deere Classic Picks
The 2017 John Deere Classic tees off on Thursday morning. Here are some of the golfers we think can contend for the win this weekend.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Daniel Berger is the favorite to win this tournament, as he is getting 12/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Brian Harman (16/1) and Charley Hoffman (16/1). The John Deere Classic takes place on Thursday-Sunday from TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.
Brian Harman has been a bit hot-and-cold, but I think he can be hot this weekend. Since winning the Wells Fargo Championship, he has alternated a poor showing with a top-10 finish. He is coming off a 35th-place finish in the Travelers Championship, which tells me he will bounce back this weekend. This is a tournament he won back in 2014. He shouldn’t lack in confidence to play well, especially in this field.
Charley Hoffman is coming into this weekend playing very well. He took eighth in the U.S. Open and third in the Travelers Championship. He has finished in the top 10 in four tournaments this year and seems to be building some momentum toward his first win of the year. In a field without any of the “elite” names, I think Hoffman can definitely make a run at the victory this weekend.
Steve Stricker isn’t someone I would suggest betting on very often, but this weekend may be the one to do it. The veteran is listed with 22/1 odds to win, but he is coming to a tournament that has led to his best results. Stricker is a three-time winner of this tournament and he won back-to-back in 2010 and 2011. Stricker is coming off a 16th-place finish in the U.S. Open, which shows he still has a game that can win a tournament of this level. He has made the cut in his last five tournaments and missed just one in eight in 2017. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Stricker emerge as the winner this weekend.
