Sony Open Predictions
The 2018 Sony Open is set to tee off early on Thursday. Which golfers do we think will contend for the victory? Here’s our golf predictions.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Jordan Spieth is the favorite this weekend with 5/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Justin Thomas (8/1), Marc Leishman (14/1), Brian Harman (20/1) and Kevin Kisner (20/1). The Sony Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Jordan Spieth is the favorite in this tournament and playing very well right now. He has finished in the top 10 in seven straight events and nine of his last 11. That includes a pair of wins, dating back to The Open Championship. Spieth was ninth last week in the Tournament of Champions and he finished third in last year’s Sony Open. I expect Spieth to have another strong showing.
Justin Thomas is playing as well as anyone right now. Thomas won the FedEx Cup in 2017 and also claimed the PGA Championship. He has actually won three of his last nine tournaments and had a total of five wins in 2017. Thomas was only 22nd in last week’s Tournament of Champions, but he is the defending champ of the Sony Open. He set the course record in his victory as well. I look for Thomas to have another great outing this weekend at a course he is comfortable at.
Tony Finau has 28/1 odds to win this weekend and he is a golfer that is climbing up the rankings. He currently sits 43rd in the world rankings thanks to a 2017 where he racked up nine top-10 finishes. Finau has finished in the top 20 in five of his last six events, including three top-10 finishes. Finau was 20th in this tournament a year ago and has been pretty consistently in the mix in PGA events in Hawaii. I think Finau will be a nice long-odds contender this weekend.
