Honda Classic Predictions
The 2018 Honda Classic his set to begin play on Thursday morning. Here’s three golfers we like to contend for the win.
According to the latest oddsmakers at YouWager, Rickie Fowler is favored to win this week, as he has 8/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Justin Thomas (10/1), Rory McIlroy (10/1) and Sergio Garcia (16/1). Tiger Woods is also playing this week and has 66/1 odds to win. The Honda Classic takes place Thursday-Sunday from PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Rory McIlroy is someone that hasn’t picked up a win in over a year, but I think this weekend could be his return to the top. McIlroy is a former winner of this event and also placed second in 2014. He has competed in four events this year, placing in the top 5 in two and in the top 20 in three of the four. This field has some big names up top, but isn’t terribly deep. I think McIlroy can put up some good scores on Thursday and Friday and make a charge on the weekend. This is a course he is comfortable at, so he should be able to contend for the win.
Alex Noren is listed with 33/1 odds to win this weekend and I think there is some good value there. Noren has finished 21st or better in all three events he’s played in for 2018. That includes a runner-up finish in the Farmers Insurance Open. Has won six tournaments over the previous three years and has been a consistent contender during that time. He has made the cut in eight straight tournaments and I expect another this week. From there he has the game that can put up a low number and charge up the leaderboard.
Ryan Moore is a dark horse to consider this weekend. He has 66/1 odds to win this weekend. Moore is coming off a ninth-place finish in the Genesis Open and he has finished in the top 10 in two of his last three tournaments. Now, he did miss the cut in the other, but Moore seems to be on an upswing right now overall. He has four top-20 finishes in his last six tournaments. He hasn’t played this well since 2016, the last time he won a tournament. With 66/1 odds, Moore can provide a big payout if he gets hot with the putter. The trends say he should be in the mix, then it just comes down to a break here and there.
