Travelers Championship Picks
A crowded field will tee off in the PGA Travelers Championship on Thursday morning. Here’s three golfers we think can contend for the victory.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy are co-favorites, as each has 12/1 odds while Jordan Spieth is listed with 14/1 odds. The Travelers Championship takes place June 21-24 from TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.
Rory McIlroy 12/1
McIlroy looked awful last week at the U.S. Open and he has missed four cuts in 2018, but he also has six top-10 finishes. It’s been hard to predict McIlroy’s trends, but he has bounced back very well after a missed cut. He missed the cut in the Valspar Championship and then won the Arnold Palmer Invitational the next week. He missed the cut at The Players Championship and followed it up with a runner-up finish at the BMW PGA Championship in Europe. Look for McIlroy to bounce back this weekend as well.
Paul Casey 20/1
Casey is a nice option with a little longer odds than the favorites. He is coming off a 16th-place finish at the U.S. Open last weekend and has finished in the top 20 in seven of his last eight events. That includes a victory in the Valspar Championship, which was his first win since 2014. Casey was runner-up in this event a few years ago and given how strong he has been playing, I think Casey can definitely emerge with a win this weekend.
Bubba Watson 28/1
Watson is a player that is very hot and cold. He has two wins this year, but six finishes outside the top 40 as well. However, Watson tends to play well at a few select courses. We saw that earlier this year when he won the Genesis Open. The Travelers Championship has been one of his best events. He has won the tournament on two occasions and finished runner-up one other time. I think he will have another strong run this weekend and push for a third title.
