Valero Texas Open Predictions
The PGA returns to its normal format this weekend with the playing of the Valero Texas Open. Here’s three golfers I like to contend for the victory.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Rickie Fowler is favored to win, as he is listed with 11/1 odds. Other short odds to win Matt Kuchar (16/1), Tony Finau (16/1) and Jordan Spieth (20/1). The Valero Texas Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from TPC San Antonio-AT&T Oaks Course in San Antonio, Texas.
Rickie Fowler 11/1
Fowler is the top player in the tournament this weekend, sitting eighth in the world rankings. Rickie Fowler has been a little up-and-down this year. He has finished outside the top 30 in four of his six events this year, but he won the Phoenix Open and was runner-up in the Honda Classic. Given this field is a little lackluster, I think Fowler will push for the win.
Jim Furyk 25/1
Furyk is playing some of the best golf in quite some time. He ended 2018 223rd in the world rankings and has since climbed up to 52nd. Furyk has played in six events this year and has placed in the top 10 twice and in the top 10 five times. He finished ninth in the Honda Classic and second in THE PLAYERS Championship. Furyk also was competitive in this tournament a year ago, finishing 26th. I think he can continue to ride his momentum this week and make a push to get his first win since 2015.
Charley Hoffman 40/1
Hoffman is a former winner of this event, taking the title in 2016. While he hasn’t been playing well so far this year, Hoffman tends to be a golfer that shows up at a few events each year. Augusta is a place that he seems to compete well in each year. I think he can have a nice showing this weekend in a weak field at a course he has succeeded at in the past. He has long odds to win, so I think he has some value.
