RBC Canadian Open Predictions
The 2018 RBC Canadian Open is set to begin play on Thursday morning in Canada. Which golfers will rise above the rest to win this PGA event?
According to the latest oddsmakers, Dustin Johnson is favored to win this week’s tournament, as he has 6/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Brooks Koepka (11/1), Tony Finau (14/1) and Tommy Fleetwood (16/1). The RBC Canadian Open takes place Thursday-Sunday from Glen Abbey Golf Club in Oakville, Canada.
Dustin Johnson 6/1
Coming off a really poor showing at The British Open, I think Johnson will bounce back this week in an event he has done pretty well at. Johnson has not won the Canadian Open, but has finished runner-up twice. DJ is still having a tremendous year outside of last week’s performance. That was his first missed cut of the year. He has played 13 events in 2018 and he has eight top-10 finishes. Johnson isn’t going to be in a funk for long and I think he is the man to beat this weekend.
Charley Hoffman 22/1
Hoffman hasn’t won an event since 2016, but I think he can break through this weekend. The 2018 season hasn’t been his best, as he has failed to crack the top 10 in any of his 18 tournaments and has missed three cuts. However, he was runner-up at this event last year and has finished in the top 20 in four straight tournaments. That includes two majors. In this field that is a little lighter, I like Hoffman to make a run.
Jhonattan Vegas 50/1
Winning an event three straight years isn’t common, but that is what Vegas will attempt to do this weekend. Given his long odds, I think there is a lot of value there. Clearly this is a course he is comfortable at. He has only won three PGA events in his career and two of them have been here. He bested Hoffman in a playoff last year and edged DJ and Jon Rahm by a stroke in 2016. This year, Vegas has missed five cuts and only landed one top-10 finish, but you have to consider a guy that has a hot course. He won’t be lacking in confidence this weekend.
