Masters Predictions
The 2019 Masters Championship tees off from Augusta on Thursday morning. Here’s a look at which golfers we think will contend for the victory this weekend.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Rory McIlroy comes into the week as the favorite. He is listed with 8/1 odds to win. Other short odds to win are Dustin Johnson (11/1) and Justin Rose (14/1). The 2019 Masters takes place Thursday-Sunday from Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia.
1000 Rory McIlroy 8/1
McIlroy is playing some great golf in 2019. He is third in the world rankings entering the week and he has played in seven tournaments this year and has finished in the top 10 in all of them, including one win. McIlroy has four majors in his career, but is just missing the Masters from his career grand slam. He has placed in the event 10 times, finishing in the top 10 the last five years. That includes a fifth-place finish last year. I think McIlroy should be dialed in to compete for his first green jacket this weekend.
1003 Tiger Woods 18/1
Woods is 12th in the world rankings currently. He has competed in five tournaments this year and has placed in the top 10 in two of them. Tiger is a 14-time major champion and four-time Masters champ. His last Masters victory was 2005 and his last major was 2008. Woods cracked the top 10 of the last two majors in 2018, which was the first time since 2013. Given his strong showing at the end of 2018, including finally getting a win, it seems that Woods is ready to contend for a major championship again. Augusta has been a pretty good course for him and I like his chances to get back into major contention this weekend.
1011 Francesco Molinari 28/1
Molinari has established himself as one of the best golfers in the world over the last 12 months. He won The Open Championship last year for his first major and he has placed in the top 25 in five straight majors. He hasn’t always played tough at Augusta, but he has finished in the top 3 in two of his last three tournaments, including one win. I think his consistency right now will allow him to compete for a victory. His short game has been really dialed in.
